| Chlorine | BaquaSpa |
|---|---|
|
Chlorine levels vary widely throughout the day and may require daily additions. Even with these daily additions, bacteria levels fluctuate greatly. |
BaquaSpa offers consistent, long-lasting protection. With just one application, bacteria levels are controlled for as long as 10–14 days. |
|
|
|
BaquaSpa doesn't affect the pH level or your water, nor is it affected by the pH. It is considerably more stable than Chlorine or Bromine so you'll do less testing and water balancing and, because BaquaSpa’s core products are liquid based, they’re very easy to use!
In addition to effective bacteria control, BaquaSpa Sanitizer with Stain & Scale Control protects against staining and discoloration due to dissolved minerals in your water.
What are the Components
of the BaquaSpa Sanitation System?
TheBaquaSpa sanitation system comprises:
-
BaquaSpa Waterline Control – a patented formula that prevents formation of waterline deposits on your hot tub shell.
-
BaquaSpa Shock – a liquid oxidiser consisting of specially stabilised hydrogen peroxide. This keeps you tub water sparkling clear by oxidising and ‘burning out’ organic compounds.
-
BaquaSpa sanitizer with Stain & Scale Control - The principle component of the BaquaSpa water care system. A bromine and chlorine free liquid sanitizer that provides effective control of bacteria and protects against staining and discolouration due to dissolved metals. It can be stored indefinitely and lasts longer in water than bromine or chlorine based sanitizers
The three parts are all necessary and important because Biguanide alone is only an effective sanitizer against bacteria. You must also apply the weekly algaecide and shock treatments.
How do I start using BaquaSpa?
To get your tub off to the right start with BaquaSpa, and also with every water change, you need to follow these three steps:
Step 1 – Drain your Spa, clean, test and balance the water
As with any disinfection
system we recommend the use of Spa Flush at every water change to
remove the bio-film and other deposits from the plumbing and
equipment.Flush your spa’s jets and pipework
thoroughly with Spa Flush then drain. Clean the inside of the
spa shell with a biguanide compatible Surface Cleaner, rinse
thoroughly and then refill with fresh water.
The function of BaquaSpa is not affected by the total alkalinity or the pH of your water, but with any sanitizer system you should make sure that your water is adequately balanced to protect your equipment and ensure that the water remains comfortable to bathe in.
Check
the water balance for pH, Total Alkalinity and Calcium Hardness. If your fresh water is outside the ranges shown below you should
use adjusters, such as those from the
SpaGuard range, to first adjust the total
alkalinity and then the pH.and finally the Calcium Hardness:
Total Alkalinity – 80 – 120ppm
pH – 7.2 – 7.8
Calcium Hardness – 200 – 400ppm
Step 2 - Clean your Filters using BaquaSpa Filter Cleaner
When using BaquaSpa you must be aware that it is a coagulant which combines bacterial cells and other small particles into particles large enough to be trapped by the hot tub filter. The resulting deposit is a grey sticky film which can only be removed with BaquaSpa Filter Cleaner. Consequently, if you use BaquaSpa your hot tub filters must be cleaned with BaquaSpa Filter Cleaner. If any other cleaner is used prior to stripping the film, the cleaner and the film will combine to form a gum like substance which cannot be removed and your filter will have to be replaced.
See What do I need to know about Filter Cleaning with BaquaSpa? for more guidance.
Step 3 – Sanitize
-
Add BaquaSpa Waterline Control at the rate of 8ml per 100 litres of spa water volume.
-
Add BaquaSpa Shock at the rate of 16ml per 100 litres of spa water volume
-
Circulate the water with all pumps on (and blowers and air injectors off) for 15 minutes
-
Add BaquaSpa sanitizer with Stain & Scale Control at the rate of 5.6ml per 100 litres of spa water and circulate for 15 minutes
[The measuring cup should be thoroughly rinsed after each use. The outside of the BaquaSpa shock bottle should be wiped after use with a clean, damp cloth to remove any liquid that may have dripped.]
NOTE: Chemicals can be added to either cold or hot water. If water temperature is cold, the addition of BaquaSpa Waterline Control may cause a temporary cloudy condition. Once the temperature reaches normal spa levels (98–104°F), the cloudiness will disappear. BaquaSpa Sanitizer with Stain & Scale Control will react with some impurities in the water to form insoluble particles. Within the small environment of a spa, these insolubles may be deposited on the spa shell, especially at initial start-up. This “bathtub ring” will vary depending on the quality of the fill water, and usually appears as yellow/brown, sticky deposits. Wipe affected areas clean. When used properly, BaquaSpa Waterline Control will eliminate deposits from forming on the spa shell.
How do I Maintain my Tub using BaquaSpa?
Once a week you need to:
Step 1 – Test and Balance
Check the pH and Total Alkalinity and, if necessary, adjust the Total Alkalinity to be within the range 80 - 120 ppm followed by the pH to be within the range: 7.2 - 7.8.
Step 2 – Test and Sanitize
Test the water for the level of BaquaSpa sanistiser and add each of the three components in the following order:
-
Add BaquaSpa Waterline Control at the rate of 4ml per 100 litres of spa water volume
-
Add BaquaSpa Shock at the rate shown in the dosage chart below. [High use is defined as using your tub more than 3 times per week.]
-
If the level of BaquaSpa sanitizer is below 30 ppm then top it up according to the dosage chart below.

What do I need to know about Filter Cleaning with BaquaSpa?
BaquaSpa requires a special Filter Cleaner to be used instead of your normal filter cleaner.
BaquaSpa is a coagulant which combines bacterial cells and other small particles into particles large enough to be trapped by the hot tub filter.
When using BaquaSpa your filters will need to be cleaned every 4 - 6 weeks. Clean them every 4 weeks if you regularly use your hot tub more than 3 times a week.
When cleaning your filters follow the procedure below:
-
Remove the cartridge(s) from the filter housing and place inside a plastic bucket.
-
Add approximately 20 litres of water to the bucket.
-
Wearing rubber gloves add 475ml (1 bottle) of BaquaSpa Filter Cleaner to the water and mix in.
-
Allow the cartridges to soak for 24 hours making sure they are immersed completely in the solution.
-
Thoroughly rinse the cartridges with a garden hose and allow to dry.
-
To dispose of the filter cleaning solution add 170g of pH increaser to neutralise it, dilute with more water and then discard with plenty of water down a drain.
We strongly advise that you have a spare filter(s). While one set is being cleaned the other set can be in use – achieving optimum spa utilisation - and if you let your filters properly dry out between uses you will find that they will last much longer.
