What is that all about?

Thanks guys. I suppose practice makes perfect but it does leave me confused. I do have clarifier and antifoam but cant seem to get beyond the alkalinity problem.

I think the message is... get the alkalinity right and in the meantime, forget about the ph. Then when this is okay, just "tweak" the ph to the correct readings. I always thought that if I reduced the alkalinity, with "Alkalinity Down", then my already low ph would suffer.

Thanks again.

Quite correct Dean, get your alkalinity right and the ph won't fluctuate wildly from high to low.
Add shock often, a small amount after each use is recommended by most suppliers.
Note - the post on this blog from Philip Rosier about filter cleaning using 'FilterOne' in the dishwasher, I use this method too and find it works well.
A rough guide to help you decide how often to change the water is- tub litres divided by daily number of bathers divided by 12 = days between water change.
i.e. 1500 litres divided by 2 bathers divided by 12 = 62 days.

I have a large wooden hot tub (2000L) and when re-filling have always found it difficult to get the Alkalinity down. With our water the Alk is off the top of the scale and the Ph is off the bottom. This time round I do not seem to be able to get it down and have used half a tub of reducer over the past 4 days. I use Bromine and tend to shock it whilst filling but I am concerned that with a constant low Ph the Bromine is not working.
I am following the instruction for the Alk reducer add about 20gms at a time then testing it every half hour, it does start to come onto the test strip scale but by the morning it is dark green again and the Ph is light yellow.
Does anyone have any tips of suggestion as to how I can get this down and stable faster and with less chemicals and test strips.

The way to increase ur ph is with aeration. Run all ur pumps with all air inlets open to get as much air into the water. It's all science which I don't understand. Use alk down to reduce the alk but always aerate at the same time to keep ur ph up. Also the only way to really know how ur water is balanced is with a proper drop test kit. Test strips are rubbish. I'm no expert I've only had a tub for six months but I found pool and spa forum.com a really usefull site. The are a lot of post on water balancing and it will answer all ur questions.
