Why is it necessary to clean your hot tub plumbing?

New Spas are "wet tested" at the factory to make sure that everything works correctly and to guarantee there are no leaks. Then they are drained and wrapped in a protective coating. Eventually they are shipped to the dealer and then to the new owner. Because these spas have been wet they have accumulated biofilm in which algae and mould may be growing unseen inside the plumbing. They also have manufacturing residues that slowly wash out and can cause cloudy water for many months.

With use all hot tubs, even well-maintained ones, accumulate unseen deposits of oily grime, micro-organisms and other foreign matter inside the plumbing systems and heat exchanger. Build-up of this biofilm inside your pipes reduces water circulation and jet action, and provides a breeding-ground for bacteria.

A spa with immaculate plumbing results in cleaner, clearer, fresher water and better circulation.

We recommend using a plumbing cleaner at every water change.  If you have a whirlpool bath you should treat that monthly too.

About Biofilm...

Biofilm is a complex association of micro-organisms which adhere to hot tub surfaces, particularly inside the plumbing, where they are difficult to remove. Biofilm may contain bacteria, viruses, mould, parasites as well as dirt and polysaccharides which add adhesion to a surface.

It grows in the nicks and crannies within the plumbing systems and jets, forming a slippery film.

Biofilm is also a particular problem with whirlpool baths.
