This table should help you identify and correct most common water problems.

Problem Likely Cause Solution

Cloudy water

Excessive organic contaminants

Use a shock to remove non-filterable wastes.  Aquasparkle Spa Fusion is a very effective shock treatment that contains water clarifiers. Immerse may leave a very low chlorine residual in yoir spa water for a few hours after treatment.  If you would like a completely chlorine free option try Splash Spas Non-Chlorine Shock.

Lack of sanitiser

Check and adjust santiser level

Build-up of tiny un-filterable particles

Use a water clarifier such as Splash Spas Water Clarifier to coagulate the particles so that they can be removed by the filter.

pH, Total Alkalinity or Total Hardness is out of balance

Test water and adjust the water balance as necessary

Dirty filters

Clean or replace your filter(s)  Aquasparkle Immerse is an excellent powdered filter cleaner which can be used in the dishwasher.  Alternatively, if you prefer to soak your filters in a bucket and use a liquid cleaner try Splash Spas Filter Cleaner.

Chalky, white scale deposits

High mineral content in water

Use Splash Spas Scale Awayl on a regular basis.

Water out of balance

Test water and adjust the water balance as necessary

Cloudy green water

Algae

Use phosphate remover
Shock to remove non-filterable wastes
Check and adjust santiser level

Clear green water

Dissolved copper or iron in spa water

Try SpaGuard Stain and Scale Control to sequester minerals in the water

Over-dose of PristineBlue

The concentration of PristineBlue will diminish over time.  If the problem is severe consider part draining and topping up with tap water

Brown water

High iron or manganese content

Try SpaGuard Stain and Scale Control to sequester minerals out of the water

Odour

Eye/Skin irritation

Chloramines

Consider changing to a low chlorine or chlorine-free sanitizer such as eco one.

PH or total alkalinity out of balance

Test water and adjust the water balance as necessary

Scum deposit at waterline

Oils, lotions and detergents from bathers have caused buildup

Clean the waterline using a proprietary cleaner

Excessive foaming

Buildup of body oils, cosmetics and detergents from bathers

Use a good quality ant-foam such as Splash Spas Foam Away.

Calcium Hardness is too low

Test the Hardness level and use SpaGuard BalancePak 300 to increase the level to at least 150ppm.

Large amount of Total Dissolved Solids

It's time for a water change!
